Chief of Police

Chief Bill Renner began his law enforcement career in 1975. After graduating Loveland High School (class of ’74)he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and received his basic training at Fort Knox , Kentucky . After basic training, he attended the United States Army Military Police School at Fort Gordon , Georgia where he was named “Honor Graduate” of his class. Soon afterward, he was transferred to Fort Leavenworth , Kansas where he received the honor of “Distinguished Graduate” of the Army’s Basic Leadership School . Chief Renner served the remainder of his enlistment as a corrections officer at the U.S.D.B. (earning several letters of commendation) until he was honorably discharged in April of 1978.

After graduating the Norwood Police Academy in October 1978, Chief Renner has received training in Death Investigation, Forensic Hypnosis, Arson and Crime Scene Investigations, Internal Affairs, Crisis Management, and Crash Reconstruction from the Institute of Police Technology and Management at the University of North Florida . He has a business degree from the Cincinnati State & Technical College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati , and has attended the Leadership 2000 program at Ivy Tech College in Indiana.

Chief Renner had accumulated 25 plus years of full-time experience in law enforcement before joining the Cleves Police Department in February of 2005 as a part-time officer. He was promoted to lieutenant the following month and immediately began restructuring the department into its current form. In June of 2007, he was elevated to full-time chief, a post that had been vacant for several years.

The Village of Cleves Chief of Police is the highest-ranking position within the police department. Appointed by the Mayor, he works closely with the Mayor and Village Council.

The Chief is responsible for directing, planning and coordinating all operations of the department for the purpose of protecting persons and property of our community.
