The Tactical Unit (Tactical Arrest and Crisis Team) was established in 2003. The Unit consisted of three officers and they were often referred to as the "Jump Out Boys". Their uniform was black t-shirts and gym shoes. The Unit was created to help address serious drug problems and drug trafficking that were beginning to plague the Village.
Their primary goals are to assist with search warrants; "Buy Bust Take Downs" and continue a strong collaboration with outside agencies. The Unit also works closely with the Drug Unit Division within Cleves Police Department. Cleves Police Department received their Armored Car which was refurbished by Rumpke Waste Removal. Officers supply their own equipment consisting of a tactical vest with armored plate inserts which hold multiple magazines. The uniform required to protect the officer costs approximately $1,800 which does not include any weapons. Unfortunately there is no funding provided and each officer pays out of pocket for their own uniform. Currently, the Unit has over 10 officers trained which include volunteers from all over the City. The Unit has successfully completed 76 operations as of 2009.
